Penn State Lion's Pantry

About the Project

Lion's Pantry was funded by Penn State's Sustainability Institute's Reinvention Fund at the University Park campus in the amount of $555.

Lion’s Pantry was created to address the issue of hunger at Penn State. Our purpose is to help supplement any Penn State student's food budget by providing them with a weekly assortment of goods that are donated by community members and corporate partners.

A clear need for a University food pantry had been expressed through stories from community members, conversations among similar organizations at large universities, and nation-wide statistics that show that hunger is a growing concern for college-aged adults.

Operating Hours

Open for students: Tuesdays and Fridays, 3-5 p.m.

Through meeting with multiple constituencies from the University we realized that there is a large base of people who are willing to help with this new initiative. Lion’s Pantry encompasses several different parts of the University. The College of Agricultural Sciences, the Sustainability Institute, Housing, Food Service, and Residence Life, the Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management program, Project Cahir, the State College Food Bank, and other student organizations have demonstrated their own interest in providing support in the establishment of an on-campus food pantry.

The establishment of Penn State's Lion Pantry will fulfill the existing and growing need of meal subsidization in the Penn State community, and provide a consistent and confidential access to essential resources for students.
